History recalled in 65th anniversary

Mrs B. Mills brought some of the rich history of the Waimarino to life this week when she gave us some news of the 65th wedding anniversary of her friends Mr and Mrs Clive Ferguson, formerly of Rangataua, and now living in Warkworth. They celebrate their anniversary on 20 December and the Bulletin adds its congratulations on their happy day. Here are some of Mrs Mill's memories of the

couple: Clive Ferguson and Irene Bankart were married at St James Anglican Church, Rangataua, 65 years ago. Clive was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Ferguson, who in the early days had a butcher shop at Rangataua. Clive was delivery boy, carrying the meat round in a big basket on horse back. His wife Irene was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Bankart. Mr Bankart built St James Church where he was

a lay reader for many years, and he even walked to Raetihi and back to conduct a service, which was no mean feat. In the little church today is a font to the memory of the late Muriel Bankart, who was their daughter. I would like to add that Mr and Mrs Bankart were my Godparents at my baptism. Other members of the Bankart family were the late Alfred, Mrs M. Gosford and Mrs Percy.

There are many people still living in Rangataua who can remember the Bankart family as they were all pioneers of the district, and their names were held in very high regard. At a recent service at St James, Rangataua, the Rev. Tom Hawira delivered a blessing for Mr and Mrs Ferguson and wished them many more happy years together. Mrs B. Mills and all their friends in Rangataua wish them well.
