Ohakune School prizegiving

There were barely enough seats for the large crowd of parents and friends who filled the Ohakune Primary School to see the final assembly of the year last week. Principal of the school, Bill Taylor, said it was a pleasure to see the large gathering and to be aware that the family and the extended family was alive and well at the school. He paid tribute to the staff, especially to Maureen Hancock who was acting principal during Mr Taylor's two term's leave. Mr Taylor wished principal of Ruapehu College, Michael Warbrick well for his new position at Edgecumbe College. "This school appreciates your significant contribution," he said. For the first time at the school, Mr Taylor presented

two awards for pupils who best exemplified the qualities that he believed to be good in the school. Awards made were: Academic awards Room 14: Rosalie Battersby, outstanding attainment; Rachel Chan, outstanding attainment; Asharie Perera, outstanding attainment; Melanie Shepherd, excellent effort; Paul Whale, excellent effort. Room 15: Shanika Perera, presentation of work; Tina Kittelty, initiative and achievement; Warwick Hays, achievement and effort; Murray Taylor, achievement and effort. Room 5: Audrey Marshall, diligence and excellence in art; Krazna McLeod, improvement in all subjects. Room 6: Serena Taylor, improvement in mathematics; Daryn Norling, endeavour and attitude; Natalee Taylor, excellent effort; Vanessa Katene, improvement in all subjects; Desmond Chung, consistent effort. Room 7: Junior Kaata, attainment in music, Maori language and general improvement; Suzanne Shepherd, outstanding attitude and general effort; Tracey Paul, for effort and attainment in mathematics; Aaron Brebner, outstanding attitude and achievement in all subjects; Marc Vincent, attainment in written language and mathematics. Room 8: Rasmus Nygaard, for general effort; Jamie Kittelty, for effort in classroom and playground; Tricia Lawrence, excellent effort in all work; Corban Tumataroa, outstanding attitude. Sports awards Soccer, Corban Tumataroa; rugby, Guy Kennedy; netball, Tracey Paul.

Athletics: senior boys, Regan Sue; senior girls, Celine Rahi; intermediate boys, Desmond Chung; intermediate girls, Carys Hubbard. Swimming: senior boys, Ngaku Te Huia; senior girls, Sondrya Dixon and Rebecca Ritchie; intermediate boys, Erin Hawira; intermediate girls, Melanie Shepherd.
