Navy divers try local waterways

A team from the New Zealand Navy Diving School at Devonport were in the Waimarino recently practising dives on local rivers and lakes. As navy divers are increasingly used in police work this experience is useful. All the group have qualified as ships' divers after a four-week course and are at the first stage of becoming professional divers. One member of the group, Ben Gilbert, was involved in lifting the sabotaged Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior. He said he had been diving from sunrise to sunset for seven weeks.
