Governor-General reviews cadets
The new GovernorGeneral, the Most Reverend Sir Paul Reeves, presided over the pass-ing-out parade of Waiourp's first officer cadets, last week. Sir Paul, accompanied by his wife Lady Beverley, was making his first visit to Waiouru since becoming Governor-General. Chief of General Staff, Major General J. A. Mace, Commander of Support Command, Brigadier E. J. Torrance, Gommander, Army Training Group, Commandant of the Officer Cadet School, Lieutenant Colonel M. F. Dodson, Colonel Bruce Meldrum, and their wives also attended the ceremony. The cadet company of 40, which included three women
and two others from Fiji and Tonga, graduated as second lieutenants after an intensive 12 month course. Officer cadets were trained at the Australian military colleges of Portsea and Duntroon until this year, but most will now train at Waiouru. A second group of officer cadets, which began training half way through this year, will be graduating in six months time, while from January courses for new intakes will be reduced to six months. After the parade, the prizegiving ceremony was held in the camp cinema and Sir Paul and Lady Beverley later attended the graduation ball at which the new officers were awarded their pips.
