Summer activities are beginning in Wanganui, as Christmas draws near. The Parks and Recreation Department have organised a party of students on the student work scheme who will be touring the city's parks in a brightly decorated bus from 16 to 20 December. From 11 to 14 December and 18 to 21 December Bruce Mason's famous 'Awatea' will be presented by Four Seasons Theatre. This memorable play, the theme of which is intercultural relationships, begins with a hangi for the audience. The Wanganui Collegiate summer activity week runs between 16 and 20 December with lots of activities for children. Enrolments can be made by ringing 58-354. Sam Hunt is on at the Rutland Hotel on Tuesday 10 December. Bands will be out playing Christmas Carols on most nights. The Salvation Army will be running a free shoppers' creche every weekday morning. The centre will beopen throughout the summer, 9am to 5pm weekdays, 10am to 3pm weekdays and public holidays, except for Christmas Day, when it is closed.
