Power cuts trees
A change in the power supply regulations may lead to a number of Ohakune trees being cut down. The change means that property owners whose trees are responsible for damage to power lines are now responsible for the cost of repairs. Officers of the King Country Electric Power Board have been inspecting the area and many consumers have been asked to fell or trim trees. This may affect prominent trees which are in falling distance of power lines. Already trees have been cut at Karioi near the high voltage line to the railway station. Area overseer Dougal Campbell said that such trees can create a hazard should they damage power lines.
