Learn in the sun — National Park summer school
If you think you will be at a loose end in January next year, wondering how to spend some long summer days, stop worrying because an exciting summer school is to be | held at National Park. The school, organised by REAP (Rural Education Activities Programme) offers a huge range of stimulating I activities from arts and
crafts through social issues to practical work. Some of the activities include: •a seven-day creative workshop in drama, dance, music and art which will culminate in a production; •a five-day course in Japanese for beginners; •five-day examination of some of the vital social issues of the day, including racism, sexism, fat oppression, violence, men in change, peace, unemployment and drug abuse; •a women's studies course conducted by Sarah Calvert author of a book on women's health; •an introduction to Maoritangi utilising Ngati Te wharetoa as resource people and including a marae visit. Other activities are beekeeping, small business, handcrafts, landscape painting, learn to sail (on Lake Taupo), computer workshops and outdoor adventures. A variety of accommodation to suit all pockets is offered, starting at one dollar a night for tent or caravan, and child care will be available between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
