DICK SMIDT

Dick Smidt, a former worker for Turners and Growers, Ohakune, died in the Waimarino Hospital last week, aged 85. Mr Smidt worked for the railways, and for Turners and Growers from 1985 to 1976 After he retired, he became involved with the T urners and Growers agency, helping with paperwork and other small jobs. He was born in Denmark and came to Ohakune in 1943, after living in Auckland and Palmerston North. Since the death of his

wife, Gwen, in 1982 he had been looked after by Mr and Mrs Eric Watson, who helped him with wood, cooking and shopping. He suffered from arthritis. Mr Smidt's funeral was held on November 27 at the Ohakune Presbyterian Church.
