Softball reps for nationals
The Waimarino Ladies Softball reps are off to the Rothmans Ladies Nationals in Auckland soon. The team, which has done very well this year, will be competing at Lion Park, Papakura, from 28 December to 2 January. The Waimarino reps, who won against the top Wanganui team, Braves, several weeks ago, will be playing in a representative tournament at Waiouru on 14 and 15 December, when teams from all over the central North Island will be taking part. Six members of the Ruapehu College Old Boys Softball Club are in the rep team, as well as three from Pipiriki, two from the Taihape Softball Club and two from the Raetihi Club. Les Clarke, former coach of the New Zealand Police ladies softball team, who has transferred to Taihape from Auckland, is the coach. Also coaching is Lou Williams, the father and uncle of some of the National Park team members. BRIDGE The Ohakune Bridge Tournament was held at the Ohakune Club on Sunday 17th November. Pairs came from Wanganui, Taihape, Taumarunui and Ohakune. The placings overall were: 1st P. Little and M. Perry, Taihape; 2nd G. Clark and A. Scott, Taumarunui; 3rd Mrs S. Masters and Mrs H. Wilson, Wanganui. The Geraghty Cup, which is played for by Ohakune members, was won by B. Eades and R. Frew, the highest scoring Ohakune pair, a mere .8 of a point above L. Burns and M. Eades.
BOWLS A Simonson Cup match was played on 18 November between Ohakune and Rapanui at Ohakune. Skip, V. Brown; 3, H. Cranston; 2, B. Hammond; lead, R. Kaiwhare. The cup was retained 21-11. A team will be travelling to Wanganui to play for the Westaway Cup on 25 of November. Club days are on Thursday and Saturday afternoon — interested players most welcome.
