Health nurse comes to the people
On Monday and Tuesday last week public health nurse Leigh Berry was installed in a caravan equipped as a mini health clinic in Ohakune and Raetihi. Leigh was checking blood pressure, conducting hearing and eye tests, and answering people 's questions on all sorts of health topics. Leigh said it was a new idea here though it was common in big. cities. She said she hoped to reach people who never had health checks. Lions supplied the caravan and shifted it between Ohakune and Raetihi. There were displays on various health subjects and also a breast model to assist women in checking for breast cancer. Leigh said many people came in for tests and she picked up several who didn't know they had high blood pressure.
