Business game award for college
An unfortunate investment at the last moment i cost Ruapehu College the chance of first place in the national business management game which has just concluded. The Ruapehu team were leading in round 6 but the choice of a company which has since gone into receivership put them out of the running. Tom Paul, executive director of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, which organised the competition, told pupils that the . winning school, Bay of Islands College, was similar to Ruapehu College in that it was small and located in a tourist area. He said he was pleased that smaller schools such as Ruapehu had done so well against the bigger city colleges. "Please all of you future financiers make sure I come back again next year by winning," he said. The institute runs the game every year and Massey University provides computer support through its business computer systems research centre. Each school starts off with $10,000 and have to invest that to the best advantage according to their business judgements. Every succeeding round they get another $2000. Ruapehu College ended up with $27,505 against $34,239 by Bay of Islands College. This is the third year Ruapehu have been in the top five schools.
