Bowling season opens

Ohakune retained the Simonson Cup on Thursday against Gonville, Wanganui, with a score of 36-11. The Ohakune team was Vi Brown, Betty Hammond, Ethel Allerby and Rita Kaiwhare. All teams were drawn and

three went through to the final with four wins out of five games. Pat Whale (skip), Betty Hammond (3), Vi Dean (2) and Elaine Cornwall (lead), lost 2-1 to Sue Barnard (skip), Ethel Allerby (3), Wally McFadyen (2), and Maisie Hill (lead). In the final, Duncan Macrae (skip), Rita Kaiwhare (3), Vi Payn (2) and Raymond Eru (1), beat Sue Barnard 's team 2-1 in an extra end, after drawing one all.
