Raetihi second-hand shop

The Welcome Inn, Raetihi's new secondhand shop, opened yesterday, next to Dobsons Plumbers in Seddon Street. The shop is run by Bessina Rewi, with the help of her friend, Carol Treanor. They have been collecting items from Wanganui for two months, and also hope to sell goods on commission for local people. As well as good-quality second-hand goods, they have new and nearly-new items, and factory seconds. They also hope to be an outlet for local crafts, again on a commission basis. Already in the shop are mattresses, linen, a washing machine and television, garden tools, pot plants, paintings, monsoon fire places, furniture and many other items at very reasonable prices. Both Bessina and Carol have returned to Raetihi after living away from the town for some time. Bessina, the daughter of Raetihi Borough Council-

lor, Bill Pehi, began school in Raetihi but left when she was six. Although she lived in Ohura for six years, she has been back to Raetihi many times, and finally returned two years ago. Carol who was born in Raetihi, has just moved back after living in Taumarunui. The shop has been vacant since Dekker Machinery moved last year. Before that, it was the menswear section of Irwin and Durys, formerly a well known draper in the area.
