RANGATAUA
Dear Sir, Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of controversy over sewage and water reticulation for Rangataua, and it seems the Waimarino County Council is very concerned over this issue, well so they should be. The county let the building in Rangataua rush madly ahead, and now the Health Department has stepped in, the county want the ratepayers of Rangataua to pay for their mistakes by putting in a sewage and water scheme. Even with the 40 per cent government subsidy a considerable amount would remain to be paid back and some ratepayers, especially pensioners, would find it very hard to pay the higher rates. The feeling is that, if this scheme goes ahead, the county should go at least 50/50 in the remaining amount, so the rates would be more reasonable. After all a lot of rate money has gone out of this area over the years and not much has come back. We have no footpaths, no curb and channelling, no street lights, no rubbish disposal, and roads that defy description. The county council has for years ignored the needs of Rangataua township, so how about putting some money back in this area, which has been totally neglected for so long. P. S. M. Bishop
