Cr Martin completes double decade

Waimarino County Council's longest-serving councillor, John Martin, recently celebrated his twentieth year of service on the council. At the county meeting on 1 7 October he was presented with a token of appreciation and a card signed by all councillors. County chairman Bruce Berry thanked Cr Martin for his years of dedicated service. "You have made many worthy decisions and have exercised wisdom in debate — you were a good debator, and still are," said the chairman. He said that the Karioi riding, of which Cr Martin is a representative, had been well served by him, as had the whole of the county. "The workload of council has increased dramatically and we have coped with those demands only because of the dedication of councillors, and you have done more than your share," said Mr Berry. The chairman said Cr Martin would be remembered for the documents he had prepared such as on the Mountain Road, on Pipiriki Road and for the National Roads Board tour of the area.
