Ruby Parker's 100 years
About 100 members of Ruby Parker's family from all over New Zealand and from Australia and Norfolk Island, helped her celebrate her birthday on Saturday night. Five generations, including several fourgeneration families, enjoyed a banquet, while between courses, sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters, related memories of their lives with Ruby. Ruby was showered with presents including a $100 note from the family, and telegrams came from David Lange, Jim
Bolger and Peter Tapsell. On Wednesday, the actual day of her birthday, there will be open house at Ruby Parker's house between 1 1am and 4.00pm, for her friends who would like to wish her well. Ruby Parker came to New Zealand from Australia in 1910 and lived in Dannevirke, Taihape and Rangataua before moving to Raetihi in 1927. Ruby still lives in the house in Raetihi which she and her family moved into in 1927. Ruby's husband, Alfred Parker, died in 1974 aged 89.
