Waimarino Rescue Field Day raises money for new equipment
Over 2000 people attended the Waimarino Rescue Field Day in Raetihi on Saturday, organised to raise money for rescue equipment for Wanganui Aero Work's Waimarino-based heliconter.
Local rescue services demonstrated their abilities and organiser, Constable Pullen of Raetihi, said between $1500 and $2000 was raised. Police, fire and ambulance services staged a simulated car crash and "res-
cued" victims, and a car fire was controlled. Army Training Group, Waiouru, displayed a Scorpion fire support vehicle, two field guns and four trucks. A Wanganui Aero Work helicopter from Wanganui displayed equipment similar to that which will soon be installed in the Waimarinobased helicopter. John Luff, from Wanganui, impressed the crowd with aerobatics in his Pitts Aerobatic by-plane and the Manawatu ParachutingClub performed their skills. Three hundred Waimarino Rescue Trust crew members were given free helicopter rides and saw the field day from the air, and there was also a lolly drop for the children. Constable Pullen said he may organise another similar field day for later next year.
