BIG CHANGES AT SKOTEL
Two million dollars worth of extensions are being carried out at the Ruapehu Skotel in Whakapapa Village. Although some of the foundations for the development were built two years ago, construction was stalled and work was re-commenced in early September. The target date for completion of the extensions is 3 1 December, says Bruce Chambers, one of five directors of the Ruapehu Skotel. Twenty-six de-luxe bedrooms are being added to the seven already there. They will have their own facilities and most will have their own patios. A house bar, restaurant and more lounge space will also be added. Mr Chambers says the restaurant will be for house guests and their friends where they will order at the counter. Th^bar and restaurant will be situated on top of the existing ski hire, sauna, spa pools, gymnasium and games room areas. Two more self-contained chalets will be added to the five existing ones. Work on the extensions has been let out to contractors Don Stanley Construc-r tion of Matamata and Lockwood from Rotorua. Mr Chambers says the Ruapehu Skotel will be taking on an additional seven people to supplement their present staff of four. The Ruapehu Skotel has been operating for 21 years and has slowly been extended; "but this is the biggest extension we've done," says Mr Chambers.
