LUCY LEGGE DIES
Lucy Legge, a wellloved Raetihi teacher who will be remembered by many residents, died at Warkworth on 20 September in her 86th year. Miss Legge began teaching at Raetihi School in the
1920s and held the position of senior assistant mistress when she retired in 1955. She was respected by both pupils and parents, and at her farewell from the school in August 1955, she was given a grand send-off, with a children's concert, speeches from local notables and a huge afternoon tea. After her retirement she worked with her sister Joy in her drapery business, until they moved to Warkworth in 1968. Lucy Legge enjoyed sports and excelled at golf and tennis, while in her later years she played contract bridge. Miss Legge is survived by her youngest sister Daisy Gibbs, three nephews, one niece, three great-nieces and five great-nephews.
