Ruapehu Old Boys celebrate
Cavemen, draculas, American footballers, gestapo men, arabs, a spaceman, a hunchback and a human rubber tyre, were some of the outlandish creatures seen dancing to the sound of Wanganui band "Outside Edge" at the Ohakune Ciub iast week. The creatures — Ruapehu Old Boys and friends —were celebrating the end of their rugby season. When the band wasn't playing, the Mareikura family Polynesian group, kept the creatures amused with Polynesian dancing and singing. Lisa Norling, who is at ballet school in Wellington, came up specially for the cabaret and performed some of her ballet skills. Karlene Hough and Sue Joe Allerby also performed dances, and Tracey Dunn did a tapdance with Henry Morgan. Anthea Allerby and Kerry Brown performed an amusing ballet skit together. Ruapehu Old Boys members prepared a delicious supper which was enjoyed after the performances. Prizes were given for the best fancy dress and prominent Old Boys players by fancy dress priest, Walter Sue. They were: Best male costume, Thomas Mareikura (hunchback); Best female costume, Owen Talford (drag queen); Most original costume, Kevin Hill (arab). Two softball awards were presented at the function: Ball and bat boys, Regan Sue and Darryn Hawira; most concientious player, Lyndon Kurukaanga. Rugby awards will be presented later.
