FOREST AND RURAL FIRES ACT 1977 Notice to Landholders in THE WAIMARINO FORESTS AREA AND FIRE SAFETY MARGIN Waimarino Forests Limited, a wholy-owned subsidiary of Winstone Afforestation Limited has recently advertised a Seasonal Notice of Forest Area Restrictions. This notice has the effect that the Forest Area known as Waimarino Forests, and its Fire Safety Margin is specified as a restricted fire season for 12 months from August 31, 1985. PERMITS REQUIRED TO LIGHT FIRES IN OPEN AIR: Every person commitsan offence againstthe Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 whosets on fire, orassiststoset on fire, or causes to be set on fire, or aids, abets and assists in setting on fire in the open air any vegetation or any othercombustible material whatsoeverexcept pursuanttoan authority or permit from a Fire officerforthe Forest area. Persons wishing to light fires in the open air within the Waimarino Forest Area, and its fire safety margin, can obtain a permit from: Winstone Afforestation Ltd, Queen Street, Raetihi. The Company does not take those responsibilities lightly and intends to enforce the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 where necessary to prevent unlawful fire lighting and damage to the assets of the Company and of landholders within the Forest Area and safety margin. We expect the co-operation of landholders and the public living-in, working-in or travelling through the district in carrying out the responsibilities. UNAUTHORISED ENTRY: The Forest and Rural Fire Regulations 1 979 deem it an offence for any person to knowingly and wilfully enter or remain in any exotic forest without a written permit or, being a permit holderfailstoobserve the conditions in the permit. The Company hereby gives warning that it will take all necessary steps to enforce this provision of the Regulations. ASSISTANCE: Winstone Afforestation personnel are available to advise affected landholders on their land clearing activities and in the planning of burning operations.
