SCOUTING LEADER VISITS

Jerry Newby, Field Commissioner for the Scout Association, wasin the region last week helping to co-ordinate Scouts and Cubs in the Waimarino and Taihape areas, and to recruit a district commissioner. Mr Newby lives in Hastings but covers the wholeof the North Island promoting scouting in each area. He spent a day with eacli of the four scouting groups in this area, in Raetihi, Ohakune, Waiouru and Taihape, discussing the development of each group. In a meeting of six interested parents of Scouts in Raetihi, Mr Newby orga nised a committee of whicl Denise Rogers is president, Maureen Bright secretary and Chris Bright treasurer. Ian Horne will remain the Scout leader. Russell Munn will become the Cub leader for Raetihi. Mr Newby is trying to find out whether Scout membership is on the increase or not in the area.
