Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club Report

A team of shooters from the newly formed Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club achieved major successes in recent competition." At the Manawatu Championships held at Palmerston North a team of 4 were placed fifth in the teams event — an event which attracted teams from all over the lower half of the North Island. This was a very pleasing result as a team of 4 normally consists of a shooter from each grade. However because the Waimarino Club consists mostly of first year shooters, this meant that three of them had to be placed in higher gradings — two shooters taking an upward movement of two grades and the other moving up one grade. The team success rate received a further boost by the win of the 'D' grade team at the Wanganui Association inter-club team's knockout tournament which included all the teams in the Wanganui District. The total score obtained was well above that of other competitors in the same grade. The successful team consisted Oi M.

Beytagh, B. McGinniss, T. Donaldson and M. Beattie. The inter-club competition in the Wanganui District has also produced a success. The standard of competition of clubs within the Association is very strong. However with little experience, Waimarino won against the Utiku club and they hope to repeat their performance before the season ends." The following best personal scores were recorded last week by members of the Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club: J. Scobie 100.4, L. Maru 98.5, K. Summerhays 98.4, M. Beytagh 98.4, T. Donaldson 95.2, M. Beattie 94.1, A. Peti 90.0, T. Wade 89.3, B. McGinniss 89.1, M. Hartley88.3,Q. Wood 85.0, R. Walker83.0, M. Williams 81.0, R. Raharuhi 81.0, R. Priest 77.1 .
