CARROT CARVERS JUDGED
Carrots cut, carved bent and twisted were entered in the Ruapehu Radio carrot carving competition last week. Over 30 entries were judged by radio staff at the Ohakune Library. The overall winner was Emma Silver, of Raetihi, who made a toothbrush and toothpaste. She won an LP for her efforts. Melissa Richards (ll), of Ohakune won the 10 years and over category for her carved totem pole with "2XR" and "Ohakune" carved on it. She won a transistor radio. Winner of the nine and under section was Fiona Cooch aged five, from the AH1 Alpine Village with her lobster. She was given a story book. Her brother Michael (9), won a lantern for his carved screw in the eight to 10 age group. Other entries included racing cars, snow bunnies, Maori canoes, a carrot burger and a hammer and nail.
