Local skiers feature in television programme
Those television viewers who were watching TV One's 'Spot On' programme on Sunday afternoon would have seen a number of familiar faces associated with Ohakune's winter scene. The 'Spot On' team were here recently to film the work of the Turoa Ski Patrol and the programme was screened this weekend. Among those seen and recognised were Andy Chapman, marketing manager for Turoa Skifields, John 'Luigi' Hotter, Turoa Ski Petrol leader, Peter 'Gunner' Lonsdale, Chris Conway and Mary 'Zinger' Eich an Americah who has returned to Turoa for the past six seasons and about whom Wellington's Dominion newspaper recently featured a full-page story. Also seen briefly were Turoa Skifield doctor Sara Smeeton and nurse Helen Pocknall.
John 'Luigi' Hotter explained that all 10 full-time members and one part-time member of the Turoa ski patrol participated in the programme even though not all of them were identifiable.
