FUNDRAISERS START WORK
Waimarino Rescue Trust fundraisers will be taking pigs to local pubs over the next few weeks. The pigs will be in wheelbarrows and they will be raffled as just one part of a major fundraising drive being run for the trust by local service groups in conjunction with Radio 2XR and with help from the Bulletin.
A number of other fundraising projects are planned. They include a hole in one competition with a 50-cent entry fee and a prize of up to $500 for the winner. Ohakune may become an independent republic for a weekend, complete with imitation passports and even fines (donations) for dissidents. The organisers also plan to run auctions of goods worth up to $1000. Buyers will be able to phone in their bids "on air" to 2XR. The radio station will soon be charging donations for song dedications, too. The finale.will be a 24hour "radiothon" with challenges, quizzes, games and giveaways. Radiothon organisers will keep track of the total raised for the rescue trust — the more money, the more equipment the helicopter can get.
