SILLY TICKET
The Bulletin has a parking infringement offence notice it would like to enter in the silly traffic ticket of the year contest. We've discussed it with the traffic officer concerned and he is happy to let it stand, so we can only assume the ticket is a deliberate attempt to win first prize. It happened on Saturday morning. The Bulletin's brightly painted van was parked near the office in Clyde Street, Ohakune, across the entrance of what used to be a car park. Some months earlier the borough council had closed off the entrance to
the car park with wooden barriers to prevent cars driving into the gravelled area. But council officers had not bothered to paint out the yellow no parking lines designed to keep the entrance clear. But our zealous traffic officer saw only the yellow lines, and he knew his duty. Standing in front of the van he filled in the details on the ticket. The sign on the van said "Waimarino Bulletin", so in the space marked Details of addressee he wrote "Waimarino Tribune". The date was 7 September,. so in the two appropriate spaces on the ticket he wrote 6.9.85.
