TUROA ART AWARDS PRESENTED
The Turoa (Ohakune) Art Awards were presented at the Ohakune Club on Sunday evening. A special preview was held for exhibiting artists and invi'ted guests. A total of 165 works were received from 91 artists. Award winners were: Premier Award ($1,000) Sponsor: Elizabeth Baigent. John Scott of Wanganui with a mixed media work titled 'Sonnet Series Line 7 - Light Denied'. This painting also won the Any Other Medium Award of $150 sponsored by the Waimarino Bulletin. Best Oil Colour ($500) Sponsor: Ohakune Borough Council. Dorothy Gordon of Laings Beach (untitled work). Oil Colour Runner Up ($100) Sponsor: Turoa Art Awards Committee. Maurice Brooks of Ashurst with work titled 'Bare Island'. Best Watercolour ($500) Sponsor: Turoa Art Awards Committee. Marlene Wood of Palmerston North with work titled 'Mangaweka Hills'.
Watercolour Runner Up ($100) Sponsor: Turoa Art Awards Committee. Ann Bennett of Pahiatua and Ohakune with work titled 'Alpine Fell Fields'. Best Portrait ($150) Sponsor: Trustee Bank Wanganui and Turoa Art Awards Committee. Winsome Smith of Utiku with work titled 'Bob'. Mt Ruapehu Award ($150) Sponsors: AHI Turoa Skifields. Joan Godfrey of Whakatane (formerly of Raetihi). Best work by artist who has not previously exhibited ($350) Sponsor: Dalgety Crown. Gordon Pepere of Ohakune with work titled 'Ruapehu Conquers Pihanga'.
