Cancer Awareness in Waimarino
Shortly two Cancer Awareness Days sponsored by the WanganuiRangitikei- Waimarino Centre of the Cancer Society are planned for the Waimarino area. These days will be held in Raetihi on Thursday 19 Sep-
tember at Mr D'Arcy Newson's Pharmacy and at Ohakune on Friday 20 September at Mr Bruce Wilde's Pharmacy. Each day will be held from 10.30am to 4.00pm and will provide an opportunity for members of the public to get information on
cancer generally and meet the Executive Officer of the Cancer Society for the area, Mr Robin Brassington, who will be able to discuss problems of concern generally. As well as the Cancer Awareness Display, by using a teaching model viewing a 3-minute film and with the instruction of Public Health Nurses, trained M.R.S. members and members of the local Cancer Support Group, women will have the opportunity to learn Breast Self-Examina-tion. In addition, information pamphlets explaining the technique will be distributed, while display materials will seek to give additional reassurance. There are many women
alive living full lives who are thankful that they have practised Breast Self-Exam-ination. Hopefully the women of the Waimarino will avail themselves of this opportunity to learn this most important technique. In order to further the funds for the welfare work of the Cancer Society in each community, a cake stall will be held in conjunction with each Cancer Awareness Day and members of the public are invited both to patronise and to bring items for sale.
