MUSIC EXAM RESULTS

Sixteen of Mrs A. Greenwood's pupils entered in the one-day New Zealand Modern School of Music Competitions at Wanganui on Saturday 9 August. Their efforts were well rewarded. Between them they collected eleven 1st placings, eleven 2nds, and eleven 3rds and three class trophies. The trophies, all for classical piano were won by Violet Kinnard 9 & under; Rachael Chan 10-12; Catherine Donaldson 13-15. Results Organ Classes: Judge, Lyn Pollock. 9 & under, Anna Dobson 1st sightreading, 3rd in test and own choice. 10-12 test, Bruce Lilburn 2nd, Helene Dobson 3rd. Own choice, Andrea Martin 2nd. Sightreading, Helene Dobson 2nd, Karina Meyer 3rd. Piano Classes (Modern): Judge, Mrs Jill Sutherland. 10-12 test, Margaret Olds 3rd. Own choice, Kathryn Oliver 2nd, Margaret Olds 3rd. Sightreading, Kathryn Oliver 1st, Margaret Olds 3 rd. 13-15 Rachael Berry 2nd, Brad McCoubrie 3rd in

test, own choice and sightreading. Piano Classes (Classical): 9 & under, Violet Kinnard lst test, own choice and sightreading. 10-12 test, Stephanie Nielson lst, Rachael Chan 2nd, Shanika Perera 3rd. Own choice, Rachael Chan lst, Stephanie Nielson 2nd, Shanika Perera 3rd. Sightreading, Shanika Perera lst, Margaret Olds 2nd, Aaron Breloner 3rd. 13-15, Catherine Donaldson lst test, own choice and sightreading. The six contestants in the 10-12 class, classical piano, were all Mrs Greenwood's pupils. In the 'own choice' section of this class the marks were very close, only one mark separating lst, 2nd and 3rd placegetters and marks for the class ranging from 87-80. Judge Mrs Sutherland remarked that this section was the most enjoyable she'd heard all day and told the contestants they all had good musical potential.
