Open daily Saturday 24 August-22 September then weekends until Labour Weekend, snow permitting. •28 August: Ski Safe Test Day. All junior skiers will be participating for their Tukino Ski Safe badge — proficiency in mountain and ski safety. •29 August: Standard Race Day. Skiers of all ages ski race against an instructor's time and handicapped so they have opportunity to receive a gold, silver or bronze standard race badge. •31 August: Tukino Cup Ski Races. Aorangi Ski Clubs' glamour event at Tukino. All ages of club members take part for the prestigious trophy donated by former President Bob Ewing. This race is also part of the Aorangi Snowflake Shield Circuit race which is unique to the Aorangi Club on Ruapehu as they are the only club to have a ski lodge at each Ruapehu Skifield. The Snowflake Shield Circuit encompasses results of races at Whakapapa, Turoa and Tukino. Challenging for the trophy today is former Oasis Hotel publican Phil Casey and his sons Sean and Scott Casey, mountain manager Moka Hayes, TMCA president philip Robers who won the trophy ten years ago plus other 'veterans' including lan Mardell, Marge Alcock, Harry Alcock and Jan Wood. (Veterans in the ski world are skiers over the age of 26!) •2 September: Start of the Fresh-Up Tukino Junior Regional Race Squad ski week. Junior skiers from Auckland, Hamilton, Wanganui and Wellington participating with expert nation from Swiss professional coach Edith Bahler (former member ofthe Swiss Junior National Team).
