HOCKEY

Raetihi Rebels were a much improved side when they beat Rangers 2-0 at Raetihi on Saturday. Rebels went on to the attack in the first ten minutes from .he right with Charmaine Green centering into the circle for Thelma Berry to connect for the first goal. A good team effort made sure the Rebels were never in doubt of victory. There was good strong clearing.from Claire Fahey in the back and Margie Berry covered a lot of ground and fed the forwards many balls. A penalty corner before half-time converted by Kathy Francis brought the score to 2-0. A much improved Debbie Lilburn kept her back bent and stick on the ground to block off a lot of the Ranger's penalty hits. Although the second half was much tighter, Rangers had Scoring opportunities as did Rebels but messy play failed to capitalise.
