AUSTRALIAN WINE TASTING

A tasting of Australian red wines was arranged by the Waimarino Wine Ciub last Sunday with Mrs Ray King, from Allied Liquor Merchants presenting the wines. Almost 20 people attended the tasting, which was held at Andrew Cornwall's home in Raetihi. The club meets in members' homes every second Sunday to try different wines. M rs King, from Auckland, was promoting Penfolds Australia wines and began the evening with a history of the company. The wines were then sampled and scored by the group. Favourites from the selection were the gold medal winning Penfolds Grange bottle 1979, 1978 valued at S59 wholesale. St. Henry 1979 was another favourite, which is 100 percent Charaz and sells at $33 wholesale. Cabernet 707 was enjoyed but it was noted that the wine needs to mature to reach its full potential. Mrs King travels around New Zealand promoting wines and liquers to wine clubs. restaurants and clubs. The Waimarino Wine Club has 12 members at present and new members are aluays welcome. An obiective of the club is to give members an idea of which wines to select for the special occasion as well as those to avoid.
