Re-organisation of Waiouru's A GI supermarket
A one-stop shopping service with competitive prices is what Mr Robert Morris plans to achieve at the AGI supermarket in Waiouru. To achieve his goal Mr Morris, the regional manager of the Army Garrison Institute in Waiouru, has instigated a complete reorganisation at the AGI supermarket, which should be completed in about six weeks time. The re-organisation of the store is the first phase of Mr Morris' plan to make the supermarket a better place to shop. He says the supermarket area of the store will be reorganised so it is competitive with other supermarkets. "While we have a problem
with transport costs, we can be more competitive than we are at present," he says. There will be a bigger selection of stock lines and the plain-pack (generic) system will be introduced. "This is a cheap line of groceries similar to the Woolworths plain pack items," Mr Morris explains. The supermarket's delicatessen lines will also be expanded. The other sections of the store, "which stock just about everything," will also be re-organised to present the goods in a better way. The supermarket will be closing down for two days in about six weeks time. During the closure Mr Morris and the staff at AGI will use the time to erect new dis-
plays and shelving throughout the shop. They plan to reopen "with some extremely good instore specials and a better image," says Mr Morris. He wants people to shop at AGI "not because they have to but because they want to." The Waiouru AGI is one of 18 outlets which are run by the Armed Forces Canteen Council. "We are the biggest store so we should be the best," says Mr Morris. The store has an annual turnover of about five million dollars which is a large percentage of the 1 5 million dollars turnover of the entire Canteen Council. The store presently has a staff of 20.
