Hobbytex a big success in Waiouru
Promoting a product which enables people to decorate sheets, tiles, walls and toilet seats, is the business of Waiouru resident, Mrs Mary Hume.
The 'Hobbytex' process she uses is a form of 'liquid embroidery', done by colouring in prints. "Anyone can do it," says Mrs Hume, "if you can colour-in you can do this."
There are many prints available, from children's cartoon characters to animals and skaters Torvill & Dean. Paints are $3 each and advice on colours to be used is given for each item. There are 90 colours in the range. It is possible to decorate place mats, serviettes, pillow cases — almost anything in fact. Mrs Hume says children can colour in pictures on non-woven fabric, and they can then be framed and hung up like paintings. She has recently completed a course in Auckland studying painting on velvet and on mirrors, and is wil-
ling to teach anyone the art I of Hobbytex for $ 1 an hour. I She says the business has 1 taken off well in Waiouru in I the four months she has been distributing the product and she hopes to interest people in other parts of the Ruapehu region. "I don't mind travelling to Ohakune, Raetihi and other places to see people," she says. Mrs Hume has lived in Waiouru for three years with her husband Eric, a warrant officer i'n the army. They have two sons, Craig, I aged seven and Justin, aged two. i
