$2,500 cheque for Te Kohanga Reo

General Manager of Winstone Afforestation, Mr Neil Mercer, presented the Raetihi Marae with a cheque for $2,500 recently, to aid with their new Te Kohanga Reo building. The building, when completed, will house the seven

regular pre-schoolers who attend Kohanga every weekday, and their teachers. The Kohanga organisers have several choices of what to spend the donation from Winstones on. The options include toilets, heaters, carp£t and lino.

Mrs Bessina Rewi, spokeswoman for the Marae, says all the items for the building will be bought locally. Winstone 's is closely associated with the Maori Community as many of the company's employees are Maori people and Winstone 's

also lease areas of Maori land for forestry use. Kohanga has been operating for four months in Raetihi and staff members are confident the numbers of children attending the language nest will continue to increase.
