RAL inundated with applicants for jobs
Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, operators of Whakapapa Ski Area, were inundated with applications after advertising in Auckland, Turangi and Wellington for lift operations crew. Over 200 applications were received from men and women keen to work in the snow for the ^5 season. Those accepted came from a variety of backgrounds. Tradesmen, horti-
cultural graduates, university students, fitters and turners, plumbers, mechanics and riggers were among the most popular choices for the demanding outdoor work involved; "We were looking for workerSj not skiers", said Scottie Barrie, skifield supervisor for RAL. "People with some mechanical aptitude who could work with the public in a friendly and courteous manner. A lot of good overseas applicants missed out however because they did not have the necessary work permits."
