Another step forward for tourism

The Ruapehu region's new information officer, Catherine Dodd, shows Swiss visitor Gertsen Alexander the large topography map in the Ohakune-based information centre. Catherine began her new job last week and is looking forward to providing a service for visitors to the region and assisting the local community. Before moving to Ohakune, Catherine managed a travel agency in Hawera for eleven years. She feels the experience she gained in that job will be a gr£at help to her in running the information centre. Catherine hopes to be able to open the centre seven days per week in the near future. One of her first tasks will be to update the information centre's list of the region's clubs and organisations. She asks that any organisations which would like their activities publicised should contact her. Waimarino County Council and Ohakune and Raetihi borough councils have all contributed to funding the centre and a number of local businesses have already pledged funds to the project.
