Raetihi School pupils write for the Bulletin
This week it is the turn of pupils of Raetihi Primary School to have some of their work published in the Bulletin. These poems were written by pupils in form one and form two, aged between eleven and thirteen, and describe their experiences during their recent school trip to Mangatepopo Camp. ★ ★ ★ Ketetahi Springs At last we're off, to the Ketetahi Springs. We walked and walked till our feet hurt, we went up untold steps that hurt. At last we were there, at the Ketetahi Springs. It smelt like rotten eggs, the blow holes shooting out water. The mud boiling hot, the rocks were all colours. Red, white and rusty colour. We didn't stay long, and then we were off down the hill. We slipped and fell because it had rained. My feet were sore, I could hardly walk.
Then 1 saw the bus, I was relieved, and that was the end of that sore walk.

Age 13 Ketetahi Springs Our walk to Ketetahi, it took us two hours. It wasn't fun because we were wet and cold. But when we got there it was worthwhile. Bubbles going pof, steam and water. When we were coming down 1 felt like gliding.

Age 11 The Ghost Town Denise and Mrs Taylor fighting which way to go, Denise said, "This way," Mrs Taylor said, "No." So we went Mrs Taylor's way, we ended up getting lost. Then we went Denise's way and saw the town ahead.

Age 12 Around the Mountain Around the mountain we tramp and camp, all the time my clothes are damp.
We hope to get back to a nice warm fire, so that tomorrow we can climb higher and higher.

Age 11 The Bus Driver On Friday afternoon, the bus driver got the bus stuck. So we didn't go to the baths, so we set our tent and off for a tramp. Aaran McCann Age 12
Shrunken Boots Have you ever walked in boots that have shrunk? Your toe sticking out like a big sore lump. Your feet are in pain, then it starts to rain. The drips dribble down into your sock, I'd rather have hooves that go clipperty clop!!

Mangatepopo Camp Exciting, large new buildings. Walking in rain, getting soaked. Coming back to a nice warm dining room. Hot soup, nice, tasty, made by the kitchen chef. Bedtime, time for bed, hoot, hoot, the owl's asleep.

Camp at Mangatepopo Left on Tuesday to go to camp, set up our beds and off for a tramp. Over the hills, over the rocks, come back with soaking socks. Off for home we moan and groan.
