Market gardeners keep Crag and his Zetor busy
Craig Greenwood, a newcomer to the agricultural contracting business, is presently beginning early cultivation for local market gardeners. Craig bought his business in March from Philip Parkes, who he had previously worked for. To carry out contracting work Craig uses a 100 horse power Zetor Crystal tractor and a range of implements and machinery. Craig's business is currently a one-man operation, but during his busy period he plans to get his brother, Daniel's help. Most of Craig's contracting work is done on farms behind Field 's Track, near Kakatahi, but he also works as far north as Horopito and out to Waiouru in the east. Work planting crops will keep Craig busy from, November until Christmas. After that Craig hopes to make hay until the end of February then do early grass
seeding for a month. He then comes into his 'slack time' when he will do general maintenance and repair work to his machinery. Prior to buying his contracting business, Craig worked for his father on the family farm.
He worked for Turoa Skifields during the 1981, '82 and '84 ski seasons and has also spent a year overseas working on farms in England. But Craig says he is happy to be back in Ohakune and enjoys being his own boss.
