To the editor

Dear Sir, Recently the Waimarino County Council voted to grant $2,000 to the Ruapehu district information office towards the payment of wages for a full time employee. How is it then that when ratepayers want something done about roads, drains etc, that the answer they get is, there is no money available. Yet the council can give away money that rightfully belongs to, and.should be spent on, the people who put it there — the ratepayers.

I agree $2,000 is not an extremely large amount, but it is a lot more than some places in the county have had spent on them in recent months and the councillors know this is right. I think the information centre does agreat job, is an essential part of the community and needs all the support it can get. It is just 'that I cannot see how the Waimarino County Council can give away money when they are always saying they have none to spend.
