Six losses and two wins for college

Five Ruapehu College sports teams travelled to Taumarunui on Thursday to compete at Taumarunui High School.

Three Taumarunui teams journeyed in the opposite direction to compete against college sides at Ohakune. It wasn't a good day for

the college however, with all five away sides being behten and only two of the three home sides recording victories.

The two winning sides were the second XI soccer team, which beat its opposition 5-2 and the second XV rugby side, which recorded a 16-4 victory. The soccer side put up a good team performance, showing fine form and good skills. Four of the college goals came from Roy Walker and one from Jason Shepherd. The college rugby team combined well, but despitethe 16-4 scoreline the Taumarunui side was not disgraced. The third home match for the college was between the second XI girls' hockey teams. Despite the 1-0 defeat this was an impressive effort by the college girls, who were playing against a more experienced team. Special mention should be made of Lisa Jane, who played a good game until an injury put her out. At T aumarunui, the worst defeat for the college was on the rugby field.

Taumarunui's first XV beat the college side 30-0, but the college's coach claimed the score didn't indicate how well his team played. The first XI soccer side was defeated 3-0. The college side was 2-0 down after only eight minutes, but recovered well. Again, the score did not reflect the closeness of the match, the college coach claimed. A 3-0 defeat was also recorded by the first XI girls' hockey side. An outstanding game by college goalie Donna O'Hanlon prevented the defeat being even greater. The first XI boys' hockey side also lost by a three goal margin, with a scoreline of 4-1. This was a well played open passing game, with both teams being complimented on their well disciplined play. The final match was between the two schools' 'A' netball sides. The college team was defeated 27-1 1.
