Course for fork-lift truck drivers

Sixteen employees of Winstone Samsung pulp mill attended two courses in fork-lift truck safety and maintenance last week.

The course was run by New Zealand Forest Products and taken by their senior training instructor, Mr Noel Woodley. Eight fork-lift workers attended the first course, on

Tuesday and Wednesday, with a further eight taking a course on Thursday and Friday. The first day of both courses was spent 'in the classroom' at the Ohakune

Club, with the second day at the pulp mill gaining practical experience driving forklifts. The courses were designed to encourage the safe, competent use of fork-lift trucks and to train their operators in maintenance techniques. New Zealand Forest Products takes courses for many companies to demonstrate the safe and efficient use of numerous types of machinery. Companies hope to gain increased productivity and reduce costs by se,nding employees on the courses. On completion of one of the courses students receive competence certificates.
