Children's earache — so what?
On the Monday and Tuesday of next week the audio-visual tester from the Wanganui Department of Health will visit the Waimarino. During her time here she will be testing many of our school-age children's hearing ability.
cold as well as earache, as a cold can block the tubes which drain fluid down from the ear to the back of the nose. But don't wait for the cold to clear up or the ear to start running before you call your doctor. Treatment must be sought quickly as the infection can cause deafness, or it may
even spread into the brain, causing serious illness. Deafness effects our ability to learn, to speak, and to achieve well at school. The local health services, combined with the visiting audio-visual tester and ear, nose and throat specialist, work together to combat deafness in young children in the Waimarino.
