Preparing for Telethon

Fund-raising and entertainment events for Telethon '85 will be based in Waiouru this year and military staff are presently preparing for the event. This year, Telethon is setting out to help the children and young people of New Zealand. The Child and Youth Development Trust has been set up to distribute the funds from Telethon. It will support projects which tackle the five A's — accidents, abuse, addiction, ailments and adversity. However, the Trust 's emphasis will be on prevention rather than cure.

A meeting was held at ATG Waiouru last week to discuss procedure for the organising of Telethon in the Ruapehu region. Mr Peter Bright, the Social Welfare Officer at the camp is in charge of the Telethon operation and asked at the meeting for individuals and groups to let him know of any fund-raising activities which are to be held, so adequate publicity can be given. The main venue for entertainment, donations and pledges during telethon will be the Waiouru Community Centre.
