Tiny Ngamatea School was the host to 200 of the best young cross country runners in the region on Wednesday. Raetihi school won the event — the inter schools cross-country sports day — with Ohakune second. The Waiouru team was third and a team from the small rural schools — Orartorha, Rangataua and Ngamatea finished fourth. Form 1 & 2 Girls: 1st Cheryl Hinana (Ret), 2nd Geraldine Timu (Wai), 3rd Pip Kinred (Wai). Boys: 1st Ray Charles (Ret), 2nd Aaran McCann (Ret), 3rd Pierra Todd (Ret).
