Tiny Ngamatea School was the host to 200 of the best young cross country runners in the region on Wednesday. Raetihi school won the event — the inter schools cross-country sports day — with Ohakune second. The Waiouru team was third and a team from the small rural schools — Orartorha, Rangataua and Ngamatea finished fourth. Results were: Standard 1 & 2 Girls: 1st Cherry Hansen (Ret), 2nd Selena Johnson (Ngt), 3rd Lee McCann (Ret). Boys: 1st Terence Taumata (Oha), 2nd Hayden Derbyshire (Oha), 3rd Shaun McLean (Ret). Standard 3 & 4 Girls: 1st Pauline Taku (Ret), 2nd Hayley Webb (Ret), 3rd Melissa Richards (Oha). Boys: 1st Brenda Maioha(Wai), 2nd Desmond Chung (Oha), 3rd Chris Winter (Ret). Form 1 & 2 Girls: 1st Cheryl Hinana (Ret), 2nd Geraldine Timu (Wai), 3rd Pip Kinred (Wai). Boys: 1st Ray Charles (Ret), 2nd Aaran McCann (Ret), 3rd Pierra Todd (Ret).
