Car club has 20 members
The Ruapehu Car and Custom Club has increased its membership to 20. Club members have sevr eral unusual and interesting custom vehicles, according to the club's public relations officer, Sven Elfstrom. "Most of our members are young and need help to improve their cars. "We have a mechanic, panelbeater and upholsterer in the club, which is a great help, although no special skills are necessary before a car enthusiast can join the club," says Sven. "Instead of young people burning the rubbers off their tyres on the main street of Ohakune, and getting a ticket for it, they can join the club and do the same thing legally and without offenaing anyone in a farmer's paddock," he says. The club holds regular 'grasskhanas', when mem-
bers can skid, speed and do what they like with their cars in a farmer's paddock. The next grasskhana will be on 9th June. Another reason for forming the club was to enable members to swap ideas with other clubs in the area. "We can improve our knowledge on the techniques used for decorating the inside of our vehicles, and then share it with other people," he says.
