Telephones off

Raetihi, Ohakune and Waiouru were 'cut off from the rest of the country on Monday afternoon after an underground telephone cable was cut near Waiouru. The cable was broken by a bulldozer which was working on the Main Trunk Line, shortly before 1.30pm. Because of the broken cable, toll calls could not be made into, or out from Ohakune, Raetihi or Waiouru for 3'/2 hours.

Normal service was restored at approximately 5pm.
