First full meeting of Rangataua School Committee
Rangataua School Committee held its first full meeting since being elected, on Monday. Projects for the ensuing year which were discussed at the meeting include the fencing and paving of the new swimming pool area. As finances are low at present money is being raised through the selling of scrap metal which has been donated to the committee by Miss Winnie Kershaw from the late Mr William Remus' estate. Also being sold to raise
funds is a quantity of fencing material from the demolition of an old shed at the school residence. A new fence for the front of the school to improve the overall appearance of the school grounds, is also a project the committee discussed, as was the landscaping and general improvement of the playing field. Repainting of the school in the next financial year both inside and out is also being contemplated.
Presentations to Miss Christine Xavier for teaching for the last school term and Mrs Margaret Paris for her work for the school over the last few years both as secretary/treasurer and as school cleaner also took place at this week's meeting. "These jobs she has carried out unselfishly for the good of the school and we hope she will carry on her good work for many more years," committee chairman, Mr John Breen stated.
