Teddy bears' picnic at primary school

As they are currently studying books about teddy bears, the pupils of room nine at Ohakune Primary School (pictured) brought their bears to school for a picnic on Monday. The children, all new entrants, enjoyed the day said their teacher, Mrs Rita Wise. The teddy bears' picnic was more than just a bit of fun says Mrs Wise.

"It encourages some of the quieter ones in the class to speak out about their bears and encourages sharing. "The children also had to count how many cups were needed for the drinks, so it incorporated a lot more learning activity for the children than people might think." After the picnic the youngsters sang songs about teddy bears which they had learnt at school.
